Lady Indians Show Grit in Tournament Weekend Play
The Chipola Lady Indians put together an impressive weekend, battling through close contests and showcasing both offensive firepower and resilience. From a split on Thursday to key wins through Sunday, Chipola demonstrated depth, determination, and clutch performance throughout the tournament stretch.
Thursday, February 5
Game 1: St. John’s River 10 – Chipola 7
The Lady Indians showed fight in their first game of the day, erupting for five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning against St. John’s River.
Taylor Jefferson ignited the rally by scoring on a tag-up. Emmalee Essary followed with an RBI double, and Keyla Arce capped the inning with a towering three-run homer to center field.
Despite the surge, Chipola came up short. Starting pitcher Dahlia Ganz took the loss after pitching five innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits while striking out two and walking one.
Arce led the offense with three RBIs, finishing 1-for-4. Paris Rodgers, Kamryn Eaton, Jefferson, and Essary each recorded two hits. Defensively, the Lady Indians were flawless, committing no errors. Irene Rabasco led the way in the field with seven cleanly handled chances.
Game 2: Chipola 10 – St. John’s River 9
Chipola bounced back in thrilling fashion, securing a 10–9 walk-off victory over the SJR State Vikings.
Tied 9–9 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Paris Rodgers delivered a clutch single to score the winning run. The Lady Indians showed resilience, battling back from an early 7–2 deficit.
Lauren Grantham earned the win, pitching a complete game. She allowed 11 hits and nine runs while striking out five and walking three.
Chipola totaled 13 hits in the contest. Eaton led the lineup with a 3-for-5 performance. Rabasco went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Rodgers and Spires added multiple hits to power the comeback effort.
Friday, February 6
The Lady Indians carried their momentum into Friday, defeating Mississippi Gulf Coast 9–2 at the Chipola Visit Dothan Invitational.
Emmalee Essary delivered a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with a single, double, and home run to center field in the fourth inning. She drove in multiple runs and sparked a decisive fourth-inning rally.
Chipola struck early when Irene Rabasco launched a solo home run in the first inning. The Lady Indians broke the game open in the fourth, highlighted by Essary’s two-run homer, an RBI triple from Taylor Jefferson, and Jefferson later scoring on a tag-up.
Julia Dominguez earned the win, throwing four strong innings while allowing just two hits and two runs (one earned). She struck out three and issued no walks. Skylar Brock closed out the game with three scoreless innings, surrendering only three hits.
Rabasco, Jefferson, and Gabrielle Flowers each recorded multiple hits in a balanced offensive effort.
Saturday, February 7
Chipola secured another dramatic win Saturday, edging Florida SouthWestern State 2–1 in extra innings.
With the score tied in the bottom of the eighth, Irene Rabasco delivered the decisive blow — a solo home run to center field — sealing the walk-off victory.
Earlier in the game, Gabrielle Flowers tied the contest at 1–1 with a solo home run in the sixth inning after Florida SouthWestern’s Giorgiana Woods had given the Buccaneers a 1–0 lead in the fifth.
Lauren Grantham earned the win with seven strong innings, allowing five hits and striking out three. Zoe Yzaguirre took the loss despite an impressive 12-strikeout performance, surrendering just two runs.
Both teams played error-free softball. Rabasco and Flowers each drove in a run for Chipola.
Sunday, February 8
Chipola 8 – Lincoln Trail 1
Emmalee Essary drove in four runs on three hits to power the Lady Indians past Lincoln Trail, 8–1.
Essary wasted no time making an impact, blasting a two-run homer to center field in the first inning. She later doubled in the sixth to drive in two more runs.
Lincoln Trail briefly grabbed a 1–0 lead in the top of the first on a steal of home, but Chipola quickly responded. Paris Rodgers doubled to score one run before Essary’s home run gave the Lady Indians a 3–1 advantage.
Chipola added another run in the third when Rodgers grounded out to bring a runner home.
Dahlia Ganz earned the win, allowing just two hits and one unearned run over six innings while walking one. Reagan Roberts tossed one scoreless inning in relief, allowing one hit and striking out one.
The Lady Indians pounded out 12 hits. Rabasco and Essary each collected three hits, while Keyla Arce and Kamryn Eaton added multiple-hit performances. Rabasco and Eaton each stole multiple bases as Chipola totaled seven stolen bases in the game.

The Lady Indians continue tournament play this weekend at the Paradise Cove Tournament, hosted by Florida SouthWestern State College. Chipola looks to build on its strong momentum and carry its offensive spark into the next round of competition.
