RESULTS FROM OPENING WEEKEND
GAME 1 : CHIPOLA 2, ST. JOHNS 7
Even though Chipola Lady Indians collected 10 hits to SJR State Vikings's 7 hits, they still fell 7-2 on Saturday at Palatka. Keyla Arce led Chipola Lady Indians with three hits. Chipola Lady Indians tied the game up in the top of the fifth thanks to two singles. Chipola Lady Indians tied the game at two on a single by Emmalee Essary.
Lauren Grantham took the loss for Chipola Lady Indians. The starter went four and one-third innings, allowing four runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking none. Julia Dominguez and Essary each drove in one run for Chipola Lady Indians. Irene Rabasco collected two hits for Chipola Lady Indians in four at bats.
GAME 2 : CHIPOLA 8, ST. JOHNS 9
Despite leading by as many as five runs, Chipola Lady Indians fell to SJR State Vikings 9-8 on Saturday at Palatka. Chipola Lady Indians was right in it until SJR State Vikings singled in the sixth inning. Chipola Lady Indians jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Emmalee Essary singled, scoring two runs, an error scored two runs, and Kamryn Eaton scored after tagging up. Irene Rabasco homered to center field, scoring two runs in the top of the second for the Chipola Lady Indians.
Essary hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the fifth for the Chipola Lady Indians. SJR State Vikings tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a fielder's choice by Emma Shipley, and a single by Carly Dall.
Dahlia Ganz pitched three innings in relief for Chipola Lady Indians. The reliever gave up four hits and three runs (two earned) while, striking out two and walking one. Skylar Brock stepped in the circle first for Chipola Lady Indians. The hurler surrendered four hits and five runs (three earned) over two innings, striking out none and walking two.
Essary provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Chipola Lady Indians with three runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Rabasco and Essary each collected two hits for Chipola Lady Indians. Amarii Spires led Chipola Lady Indians with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting four walks for the game.
