Chipola Splits with Tallahassee State
The Chipola Indians split a two-game matchup with Tallahassee State College this week, dropping a narrow 7-6 decision on Monday before responding with a 7-4 victory on Wednesday.
On Monday, Chipola battled throughout but Tallahassee State used a late rally to secure the win. The Indians opened the scoring in the first inning when Seven Alemais worked a bases-loaded walk to bring home the game's first run.
Chipola tied the game in the second when Anthony Clavet drove in a run with a groundout. After Tallahassee State moved ahead in the fourth, the Indians answered in the fifth as Michael Mullinax and Hudson Gilman each delivered RBI singles to give Chipola a 5-4 advantage.
In the sixth inning, Colin Guerra added to the lead with a solo home run to right field. Guerra paced the Indians offensively, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Guerra and Gilman each collected three hits in the game while Alemais and Kane Moye helped the offense by drawing three walks apiece. Chipola totaled nine hits and worked 10 walks in the contest.
On the mound, Cannon Feazell started for the Indians and struck out three over four innings, while Vladil Baldepina recorded four strikeouts in relief.
Chipola bounced back on Wednesday with a 7-4 win to earn the series split. After Tallahassee State scored in the opening inning, the Indians responded with a three-run third inning. Tyler Correa delivered an RBI single, Michael Mullinax drove in a run with a fielder's choice, and Derek Gonzalez drew a bases-loaded walk to put Chipola ahead.
Gonzalez led the Indians with three RBIs from the seventh spot in the lineup, while Colin Guerra added two hits. Chipola also continued to show patience at the plate, drawing six walks.
On the mound, Clinton Harris earned the win after striking out four over three and one-third innings of relief. Drew Colon started the game for the Indians, allowing just one run over two and two-thirds innings. Hutson Trobaugh delivered two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and Aaron Elissalt closed the game to earn the save.
