Chipola Baseball goes 1-1 on Opening Conference Weekend
Chipola's 17 game win streak comes to an end.
Game 1 – Northwest Florida 12, Chipola 1
Northwest Florida jumped out early and never looked back in Friday's matchup, defeating Chipola 12-1.
The Raiders scored three runs in the first inning, capitalizing on a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a sacrifice fly to grab the early momentum. They extended their lead in the second when Sam Bradley drove in a run with a single before Anthony Quigley launched a two-run home run to left field.
Northwest Florida continued to apply pressure in the third inning, scoring three more runs with the help of a walk, a single, and a Chipola error. Brock Clayton added a solo home run in the fourth to further extend the lead.
Jeremiah Gary, Tyler Correa, and Derek Gonzalez each recorded a hit for Chipola, while Colin Guerra drove in the Indians' lone run. Chipola also turned a double play defensively.
On the mound, Brady Brock provided relief work for the Indians, tossing three innings and striking out four.
Game 2 – Chipola 12, Northwest Florida 8
Chipola responded in a big way Saturday, using timely hitting and late offense to secure a 12-8 victory.
The Raiders built an early 4-1 lead through the first two innings before Chipola flipped the game in the fourth. The Indians plated five runs in the frame, highlighted by a three-run home run from Kane Moye on the ninth pitch of a lengthy at-bat to take a 6-4 lead.
Chipola extended the advantage in the fifth inning when Hudson Gilman crushed a solo home run and Tyler Correa added an RBI single.
Northwest Florida battled back to tie the game 8-8 in the eighth, but the Indians delivered in the ninth. Nick Croce drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in a run, Gilman followed with a two-run double, and Jeremiah Gary added a sacrifice fly to cap the four-run inning.
Gilman powered the offense with two home runs and five RBIs in the game. Correa led Chipola at the plate with a 4-for-6 performance, while Moye added two hits.
On the mound, Aaron Elissalt earned the win in relief. Clinton Harris delivered a key outing out of the bullpen, tossing three shutout innings while striking out three.
