The Lady Indians opened play at the NJCAA National Tournament with a 10-2 win over Lake Land in five innings.
The Lakers were the first to score in the top of the second, but Chipola answered in the bottom of the inning. Taylor Scala scored on a defensive error and Haley Sandridge brought home Candela Figueroa with a double to left field.
There were no more runs scored in the contest until the bottom of the forth inning, where the Lady Indians added on four.
Scala started things off by reaching first base. Figueroa was next up to bat and was hit by the pitch, putting two on for the Lady Indians. Sandridge hit a bullet to the center field fence, which scored Scala and gave Chipola a 3-1 lead. Lauren Finch extended the lead with a single where both runners came home on a defensive error. Mikayla Lewin added another run to the board as her base hit scored Madison Kent, giving Chipola a 6-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth, the Lakers were able to get one run back, making the score 6-2 Chipola.
In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Indians finished the job as they added in four runs and ended the game via the run rule.
Yoshie Omori had a double to right field. Mclain kept things going and got on base with a single to center field. Scala picked up a RBI as she scored one runner, extending the lead to 7-2. Figueroa then hit a triple to score two more runs, making Chipola's lead 9-2. Sandridge was able to end the game when she brought Figueroa home, giving the Lady Indians the 10-2 victory.
In the circle, Amy Woodham went all five innings. She allowed three hits and had two strikeouts.
At the plate, Figueroa had three runs, two hits, and two RBIs. Scala had three runs, three hits, and one RBI. Sandridge had one run, two hits, and three RBIs. Lewin had two runs and one RBI. Omori, Clegg, and Mclain each had a hit.
