Lady Indians Beat Seminole State, Stay Alive in State Tournament

The Lady Indians are still alive in the FCSAA State Tournament after a 12-2 win over Seminole State this morning.

Candela Figueroa got things started in the top of the first inning with a bomb over the left field fence, giving Chipola an early 1-0 lead. The Raiders would answer in the bottom of the inning, tying the game up 1-1.

The Lady Indians would score three more runs in the top of the second. Ally Clegg started the inning with a base hit to center field. Figueroa's hit scored one, Haley Sandridge had a sacrifice fly to bring home another runner, and Taylor Scala was able to score on a wild pitch. With the three runs, Chipola extended their lead to 4-1 in the second and the score would stay that way until Seminole State scored one in the bottom of the third inning, which was the last time they posted a run on the board.

The Lady Indians would go on to score eight more runs in the contest.

In the top of the fourth, Sandridge and Eila Infante both drove home runners, extending Chipola's lead to 6-2.

In the fifth inning, Clegg knocked one out of the park to add another run.

The sixth inning had the most action offensively for the Lady Indians. Infante scored two on her line drive to left field. Clegg, Jadia Jones, and Scala were also all able to bring runners home during the inning, extending the lead to 12-2.

Seminole State was unable to score in the bottom of the sixth inning, which ended the game per the run rule.

Chipola's good defensive effort was led by Amy Woodham, who pitched five innings with five strikeouts. She allowed four hits and two runs. Brianna Bailey came in relief for one inning and had two strikeouts.

At the plate, Figueroa led the squad with four hits, a home run, three runs, and two RBIs. Clegg recorded three hits, a home run, three runs, and two RBIs. Sandridge had two hits, two runs, and two RBIs, Infante had two hits, one run, and three RBIs, and Jones had one hit and one RBI.

Chipola will now face the winner of the State College of Florida/Indian River game tonight at 7:00 p.m. EST/6:00 p.m. CST.
