Lady Indians Advance

The Lady Indians beat Indian River 12-1 in five innings this morning to advance at the FCSAA State Tournament. 

 It was no surprise that Candela Figueroa started the game getting on base. However, Chipola was unable to bring her home in the top of the first.
 
Ally Clegg began the second inning with a triple to the right field fence. Sydney Mclain was then able to bring her home on a base hit, giving Chipola a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers couldn't answer in the bottom of the inning.
 
The Lady Indians opened things up in the third. With two on base, Mikayla Lewin hit a bomb to score three runs and extend the lead to 4-0. Clegg then hit her second triple of the day and was able to score on a sacrifice fly by Tammie Lijbers, which extended the lead to 5-0.
 
Indian River was able to get one run back in the bottom of the inning, making the score 5-1 heading into the fourth inning. 
 
The top of the fourth added six more runs for the Lady Indians. After walking in the first run, Clegg had a sacrifice fly at the fence to score two more. Another run was walked in, followed by an RBI for Figueroa before the inning came to an end. Chipola extended their lead to 11-1.
 
The Pioneers were able to get on base in the bottom of the fourth, but unable to score a run. The score remained 11-1 Chipola heading into the fifth inning. 
 
In the fifth, the Lady Indians added one more run on a Pioneer error to make the score 12-1. 
 
With Indian River unable to score in the bottom of the fifth, the game ended on the run rule. 
 
In the circle, Brianna Bailey pitched the entire five innings. She had five strikeouts and allowed three hits with one run. 
 
At the plate, Clegg led Chipola with two hits, two runs, and two RBIs. Lewin had one hit, a home run, and three RBIs. Figueroa had two hits, one run, and two RBIs. Mclain and Lauren Finch each had one hit, one run, and one RBI. Jadia Jones had one hit and two runs. Eila Infante had one hit and one run. Lijbers and Yoshie Omorie both had one RBI. 
 
Chipola will now face FloridaSouthwestern at noon EST/11:00 a.m. CST for a bid to the NJCAA National Tournament.
