Chipola (12-3) defeated Columbia State 9-3 on Sunday thanks in part to Max Guzman, who drove in five runners. Guzman drove in runs on a home run in the first, a home run in the fifth, and a single in the seventh.
Columbia State captured the lead in the first inning. With one out in the first inning #21 drove in one run when he singled.After Columbia State scored one run in the top of the fifth, Chipola Indians answered with one of their own. Columbia State scored when #21 grounded out, scoring one run. Chipola Indians then answered when Guzman homered off of #34, driving in one run.Chipola Indians took the lead for good with four runs in the first inning. In the first Bechtold homered off of #34, driving in one run and Guzman homered off of #34, driving in three runs.
Ryan Shauger (2-1) earned the win. He pitched four innings, surrendering two runs, five hits, and striking out three. Parker Warren threw three innings, as he and Andrew Grogan helped Chipola finish off the victory.
The Indians are back in action next Friday, February 24 as they take on Shelton State (12pm) and State College of Florida (5pm).
