The Chipola Softball team picked up a sweep of Lakeland College of Mattoon, IL on Wednesday.   Lakeland is receiving votes in the national pre-season poll.  After losing on Sunday to Middle Georgia and ending their 16 game win streak.  The Lady Indians couldn't wait to hit the field again and try and start another streak.  On Wednesday they did just that.   With the temperature around 45 degrees at game time, the Lady Indians came out hot.   With 3 pop ups in the top of the first for Emma Stevenson(Harrisburg, NC) and 2 runs in the bottom.   Michelle Hewett(Marianna) led off the bottom with a single to third, then a stolen base to get to second.  Dana Cauthen followed up with a single to short stop.  Ariel van Hook(Whittier, CA) ws hit by a pitch that loaded the bases.  One batter later, Andrea Sullivan(Hampton, GA) was walked to force in a run for the Indians.  Nicole Roddy(Canton, GA) came up and hit a deep fly by to left for a sacrifice fly and the last run of the inning.   Stevenson gave up a solo homerun in the 3rd for the only run in the game for Lakeland.   Chipola would score 6 runs in the fifth all coming with 2 outs.  Lakeland would go down quietly in the 6th and 7th inning to give the Lady Indians the win.  Stevenson would increase her record to 10-1 on the season

The second game would be more of a nail biter for the Lady Indians.  The pitcher for Lakeland, Geri Whitman, who has already committed to play at D1 Texas A&M Corpus Christi and it showed why.   She kept the Lady Indians high power offense to 1 run.  The only problem was Skylar Davis(Chipley) kept Lakeland to no runs on 6 hits and six strikouts.  The defense for Chipola would help out with 2 double plays and no errors.  The Lady Indians would get 6 hits, 4 walks, 4 atolen bases, and only 4 strikeouts.  Chipola would leave on 10 runners though that kept the game close.

Chipola softball runs their overall record to 19-4.  They have also moved up to #2 ranked team in the state of Florida.  The Lady Indians will play this weekend in Panama City, 3 games on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday at Frank Brown park.
